How to Lower Child Support

In order to attempt to lower child support, you must first determine how child support was put in place.  Generally, child support is established through the child support agency, generally through an Administrative Order for Child Support, or through a court order issued by a judge.

Depending on the jurisdiction of the child support, periodic review can be requested of the child support agency to try to change the amount of child support.  Likewise, the same modifications can be requested through a court.  Generally, a certain time period must have lapsed since the last order, or by a showing of a substantial or significant change in circumstances.  Such factors as loss of employment, or substantial change in income can justify lowering child support.
